While definitely the series itself isn't dark, since Wescott's interference, the story progressively becomes more than just a race to seal the most Spirits. But also stop the power hungry and corrupt CEO/MD to rule the world, even the universe. And as the story goes, the comic relief moments slowly but surely fading, become more serious.
