”Second” Date (『二度目』のデート, “Futatabime” no Dēto?) is the ninth episode of Date A Live Ⅴ.
Synopsis[]
Despite being surprised by Shido's offer, Reine agrees to go on a date with him tomorrow. Afterward, Shido explains the entire situation to Kotori and MARIA, who he knows the former would find it very difficult to handle the truth due to Reine being her best friend. Thanks to a listening device that Origami planted on Shido, the other Spirits are also updated on the situation as well and make plans to assist Shido on his date. Shido then excuses himself and briefly leaves Fraxinus. Knowing full well that Kurumi is having her clones keep tabs on him at all times, he requests for a chance to talk to one of them. Eyepatch Kurumi reveals herself from the shadows, and Shido warns her of the Spirit of Origin's entry in the upcoming battle. As eyepatch Kurumi thanks him for the info, Shido reassures her that she did succeed in making her life useful for her original self. Meanwhile, Tohka confronts Reine and asks her if she also likes Shido. While Tohka leaves after being satisfied by her affirmative answer, Reine senses something is off but soon chooses to dismiss that feeling.
The next day Shido arrives on the date equipped with a new communicator device attached to his collarbone so Reine won't notice the Fraxinus crew and Spirits assisting him. Shido's plans for the date take the pair to a hot springs resort, where the intended goal is to allow Reine to relax. Throughout the date, the Spirits are all given buzzers to help in the choice selection. As they relax in the bath together, MARIA censors the footage by removing the visuals to respect Reine's privacy, much to the male crew members and Miku's frustration. Shido inquires Reine about her past and Reine asks Shido about his memories before being taken in by the Itsuka family, subtly asking if he holds any resentment towards his birth mother for abandoning him. Shido reveals that he barely has any memories of his mother, but he can still faintly remember being gently held by her, which reassured him that there must have been a good reason for giving him up. The reply makes Reine happy, causing her to hug Shido, much to his embarrassment.
Meanwhile, Westcott learns about what happened in the future from Beelzebub and informs Ellen that they are going to begin DEM's battle with Ratatoskr ahead of schedule. Giddy with amusement, Westcott rejoices at his fortune in having Beelzebub be the first Demon King in his possession. Elsewhere, Shido continues his date with Reine by surprising her with the same beach shore that Mio and Shinji went to during their date around thirty years ago, much to Reine's nostalgic joy.
