The Spirit of Origin (始原の精霊, Shigen no Seirei?) is the fourth episode of Date A Live Ⅴ.
Synopsis[]
In a flashback, Shinji Takamiya is on his way home when a massive Spacequake occurs in front of him. Upon waking up after the impact, he sees a mysterious girl floating in the sky. Unsure of what to do, Shinji brings the girl back to his home, which causes a misunderstanding when his little sister Mana enters the room. After explaining the situation, the girl sneezes, presumably due to feeling cold from only wearing Shinji’s jacket. Mana is about to give her some of her clothes, but the girl suddenly uses her powers to instantly manifest a copy of Mana’s school uniform.
The next day, the girl's intelligence skyrockets from consuming various forms of media, growing from the level of speaking like an infant to being able to converse politely. However, when pressed about her origins, she suffers a headache and claims not able to remember anything clearly besides standing in a destroyed wasteland in front of three people. Seeing that this girl still lacks a name, Shinji gives her the name Mio, naming her after the 30th. Being granted a name causes Mio to shed tears of joy. Shinji and Mio grow closer, with the latter even winning the former a teddy bear plushie in a crane game. This culminates in Mio overhearing Shinji practicing asking her out on a date. Despite having no idea what a date even is, Mio readily agrees to the endeavor. After talking with Mana to get an explanation on what a date means, both start blushing over the implications. Mana then calls her best friend Haruko Homura to assist in preparing an outfit for Mio on her date.
They eventually decide on a one-piece dress with a sunhat, which wows Shinji upon seeing it. Shinji's plans for a date take them for a walk on the beach, with Mio enjoying the beautiful scenery for the very first time. The two nearly kiss, but is interrupted by Mio sneezing at the last moment. On the way back home, Mio notices mysterious men following them, which causes Mio to urge them to flee and Shinji getting his hand injured by one of the pursuers. After using her powers to heal the injury, Mio resolves to deal with the issue alone, but Shinji refuses to let her do so on the grounds that they are family. The two then run into a younger Woodman who, after receiving confirmation that Mio is happy, tells them to run away.
However, they are eventually cornered by Westcott and his men. Westcott reveals that he has kidnapped Mana and he will only let her go in exchange for Mio. Mio is willing to surrender herself, but Shinji refuses to trust Westcott and attempts to escape with Mio. Westcott merely comments that he wasn't lying as he shoots down Shinji with a gun. Horrified, Mio triggers a grief-induced Spqcequake that devastates her surroundings, but Westcott manages to escape in time thanks to a teleportation spell. Laying in the aftermath of the destruction, Mio resolves to absorb Shinji's lifeless body into her own, promising to recreate him and never let him go again.
